MIX was retained to develop the concept design for a large mixed-use development site in Fuzhou, China. The sea has played a formative and historic role in Fuzhou and also dovetailed into the client’s own marketing ideas. MIX envisioned and developed a full retail, entertainment and dining strategy – visually interweaving water imagery and the idea of the sea. These ideas evolved to include signature project aspects such as an animated fish-like building skin, a unique cylindrical aquarium and culminating in a multi-media ice rink incorporating a so-called, “Video Ice.”
